2013-things-of-thanks | Week 35

If you’re reading this then it’s probably Monday morning and there hasn’t been a global internet disaster and we will have moved house and should be getting back online sometime today but there’s no guarantee. Because ‘Wherever you live in the world, there’s no sure hope in the certain flux of circumstances. And circumstances that shift and rock can devastate us into blocking the change we desperately want.’ (That’s from the book I’m writing.)

One thing won’t have changed over the weekend and one thing is the same this Monday and every Monday past and every Monday to come. His Word.

This week’s 39 things are 39 of the many-many-many passages of Scripture for which I am so grateful:

1329 The Lord our God has secrets known to no one. We are not accountable for them, but we and our children are accountable forever for all that he has revealed to us, so that we may obey all the terms of these instructions. Deuteronomy 29:29

1330 For the LORD God is our sun and our shield. He gives us grace and glory. The LORD will withhold no good thing from those who do what is right. Psalm 84:11

1331 I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not; I will lead them in paths that they have not known: I will make darkness light before them, and crooked things straight. These things will I do and not forsake them. Isaiah 42:16

1332 But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence. They are like trees planted along a river bed, with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried about long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit. Jeremiah 17:7-8

1333 Mighty hero, the Lord is with you! Go with the strength you have. Judges 6:12, 14

1334 So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead. 1 Peter 1:6

1335 No, O people, the LORD has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God. Micah 6:8

1336 She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future. Proverbs 31:25

1337 The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. Psalm 37:23

1338 The LORD your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing. Zephaniah 3:17

1339 This is my command – be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the LORD your God is with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9

1340 Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. Psalm 91:1

1341 Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you your heart’s desires. Psalm 37:4

1342 I will answer them before they even call to me. While they are still talking about their needs, I will go ahead and answer their prayers! Isaiah 65:24

1343 Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you. Deuteronomy 31:8

1344 No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him. 1 Corinthians 2:9

1345 You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good.  Genesis 50:20

1346 I will repay you for the years the locusts have eaten.  Joel 2:25

1347 For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.  Isaiah 55:9

1348 As Jesus was walking along, he saw a man who had been blind from birth. ‘Rabbi,’ his disciples asked him, ‘why was this man born blind? Was it because of his own sins or his parents’ sins?’ ‘It was not because of his sins or his parents’ sins,’ Jesus answered. ‘This happened so the power of God could be seen in him.’ John 9:1-3

1349 You parents – if your children ask for a loaf of bread, do you give them a stone instead? Or if they ask for a fish, do you give them a snake? Of course not! So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him.  Matthew 7:9-11

1350 For you are the fountain of life, the light by which we see. Psalm 36:9

1351 That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day. For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever! So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever. 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

1352 What sorrow awaits those who argue with their Creator. Does a clay pot argue with its maker? Does the clay dispute with the one who shapes it, saying, ‘Stop, you’re doing it wrong!’ Does the pot exclaim, ‘How clumsy can you be?’ How terrible it would be if a newborn baby said to its father, ‘Why was I born?’ or if it said to its mother, ‘Why did you make me this way?’ This is what the LORD says— the Holy One of Israel and your Creator: “Do you question what I do for my children? Do you give me orders about the work of my hands? I am the one who made the earth and created people to live on it. With my hands I stretched out the heavens. All the stars are at my command.”  Isaiah 45:9-12

1353 The Lord will work out his plans for my life – for your faithful love, O Lord, endures forever. Don’t abandon me, for you made me.  Psalm 138:8

1354 Who has done such mighty deeds, summoning each new generation from the beginning of time? It is I, the LORD, the First and the Last. I alone am he. Isaiah 41:4

1355 Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Ephesians 3:20

1356 Those who look to him for help will be radiant with joy; no shadow of shame will darken their faces. Psalm 34:5

1357 For he rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son, who purchased our freedom and forgave our sins. Colossians 1:13-14

1358 The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning. Lamentations 3:22-23

1359 So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most. Hebrews 4:16

1360 Do everything without complaining and arguing, so that no one can criticize you. Live clean, innocent lives as children of God, shining like bright lights in a world full of crooked and perverse people. Philippians 2:14-15

1361 Young people, it’s wonderful to be young! Enjoy every minute of it. Do everything you want to do; take it all in. But remember you must give an account to God for everything you do. So refuse to worry, and keep your body healthy. But remember that youth, with a whole life before you, is meaningless. Ecclesiastes 11:9-10

1362 Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying. Romans 12:12

1363 Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and unfathomable His ways! Romans 11:33

1364 I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you fill overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13

1365 I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted. Job 42:2

1366 So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. Romans 8:1

1367 The path of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn, which shines ever brighter until the full light of day. Proverbs 4:18
