HHH Part 5: Stay in the pool

This is Part 5 of Holy Habits for Headspace – read about it here. More habits coming in the next week or two from some guest bloggers who are way cooler than me.

Michael Phelps, who some say is the greatest athlete of all time, said the way to win is to stay in the pool. Stay in the pool when everyone else gets out. And when you feel like getting out? Stay in the pool. Just a little longer.

To stay focused when you’d love to be distracted. To do the next thing when it’s not the easiest thing. The most successful are the ones most focused and the greats are greatly focused. There is never any fruit without focus.’ (Ann Voskamp)

That’s it, for today.

Be present, intentionally aware of Christ’s love and loving his Word. And stay at it – the thing God has called you to. Stay at it for longer than you think you need to. Longer than you feel like. So long that you’ll be very wet and very cold and very tired and maybe also very successful.

Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win! All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. – 1 Corinthians 9:24-25
